FAQ: Are You A Videographer Or A Cinematographer?

Production

ProductionWith cameras attached to nearly every tangible item on earth, these days, aren’t we all videographers? However, I am not a professional videographer or cinematographer, by trade. This is not to say that I can’t compse a shot, or work with a cinematographer to get the shots I want. I can, and it is one of my strengths as a director, and to some extent, as a writer, as well. I’m also not a 3D animator (For some reason, too many people seem to interchange the terms designer and animator. They couldn’t more different than night and day ), nor am I an audio engineer, or a technician. Again, I do regularly put a team of those people together, and direct them to create and facilitate the needs of any project I create.

Videography and cinematography are skills best left to those who have dedicated their career to the pursuit of mastering those skills. You wouldn’t hire a lawyer who also does surgery on the side, just because, in addition to your legal needs, you also have to get your appendix removed, so why would you hire a ‘jack of all trades’ to create your message? You know what a ‘jack of all trades’ is, right? A master of none.
